“I am the Commercial Manager at Lloyd Shoe Company and earlier this year we were in the process of expanding our buying and merchandising teams. As a Concession retailer finding the correct staff is essential as the role we play is technically that of a ‘trading’ supplier. We are based outside the centre of London and are a relatively compact operation at head office.

Fashion & Retail Personnel were faced with the challenge of finding candidates who could integrate into a small team yet understand and communicate with traditional merchandising and buying structures for large clients. We were looking for people who could apply the processes normally used in large retailers yet make them relevant to our business. Charlie Gerver made the initial contact and ensured through a friendly consultative approach she understood our business, our structure and of course the nature of the roles we were hoping to fill.

A comprehensive job description was produced as was a summary of our business and a brief Company History in order for Charlie to advise candidates where we had come from. Charlie ensured she was able to pick suitable candidates – there is nothing worse than being sent every merchandiser on the database we were only sent those who fitted the bill on both skill set and personality – Charlie appreciated in smaller operations personality is nearly as important as having the required practical experience.

In 5 months we filled 4 roles at varied levels- a merchandiser, assistant merchandiser, assistant buyer and a buyers admin. The process from selection of viable candidates to recruitment was made easier due to regular meaningful communication from Charlie and by being honest with feedback on both sides.

All 4 employees have successfully integrated into Lloyd Shoe Company, they have been able to adjust to our processes and culture and similarly have brought their own experience to the roles, they’ve certainly enhanced aspects of the operation with changes they have implemented and I’m sure they will continue to do so.’’
